Protestants need not apply says McQuillan

DUP MLA Adrian McQuillan says the PSNI’s latest recruitment campaign should be open and not aimed at a particular section of the community.

Speaking last week, the MLA hit out at the drive by the PSNI to recruit around 100 officers in the next year.

The East Londonderry MLA said,: “ I heard Deputy Chief Constable Judith Gillespie saying that they were encouraging applications from Catholics, women and young people - does this mean that Protestants need not apply?”

“I think that recruitment for any job should be open.

“ The person who has the right skills and qualifications for the post should be successful - no matter what their background. “The wording in latest drive will put young Protestants off applying.”
