Proud of Bushmills Patchwork Quilt

Members of Bushmills and District Community Association’s Ivy Leaf Group have had a busy few months thanks to funding received from the Turkington Fund through the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland.

It has enabled the Association to deliver a Reminiscence Event and an Intergenerational Project with pupils from Bushmills Primary School which provided a unique opportunity for our members to reflect on their past and learn about the history of the village and surrounding area. This included a cinema event in the Bushmills Inn showing old film footage of the local area. To compliment this event Dr Bob Curran facilitated an informative and entertaining workshop, detailing the progression of the village over the years, including its local infrastructure and industries as well as its unique characters and culture.

In keeping with the theme of our local heritage we devised an Intergenerational Project with Primary 6 and 7 pupils at Bushmills Primary School. This resulted in a wonderful craft piece Our Patchwork Village – The Twenty Wonders of Bushmills, which represents our local area and also everyone who was involved in its creation.
