£10,000 damage caused to university

Police received a report shortly after 5.10pm on Monday, August 18, that damage had been caused to the sports pavilion area.

A University of Ulster spokesperson said: “The university has been working with the PSNI since July to combat anti-social behaviour, trespassing and vandalism at the sports pavilion on the Coleraine campus.

“In the most recent incident on 18 August, the fence was damaged as the individuals gained entry and sports facilities, including football pitches and goal posts, were damaged or destroyed.

“Not only are the individuals disrupting the sports services offered by the university and generating significant repair costs, but they are also putting themselves at risk by scaling the fence to gain access.

“We would urge anyone with information to contact the PSNI.”

Police Constable Maguire said: “Police would ask anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information to contact them at Coleraine on the non emergency number 101.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
