He continued: “The Story of Irish’ project aims to develop awareness of the Irish language and its community among new audiences.

“The project will be community-led and will use creative approaches to collate images, text, and photographs to archive the story in an innovative way, capturing the essence of the language, its people and places, landmark dates and key events in the history of the community and the hopes and aspirations people have for the language beyond 2013.”

‘The Story of Irish’ project will work in direct partnership with schools, community organisations and a range of other partners within the Irish language community in Londonderry to tell the story of the language and the language community in a new interpretative exhibition which will focus on the language in our history, the living language today and future aspirations for the language as we move towards a shared future.

The Culture for All programme aims to help communities participate in the 2013 City of Culture celebrations and is supported by the Big Lottery Fund and The Arts Council for Northern Ireland.
