Greenbee Developments presented their proposal for the nursing care village and a number of private residential homes at a meeting of Craigavon Borough Council on Monday night.

The nursing care village will include a modern 70 bed care home, 12 assisted living units and 11 private family homes and represents an investment of £10 million in the local area.

The main nursing care home and assisted living units will be situated on the site of Providence House on the Cornakinnegar Road, which is to be restored and incorporated into the overall design as part of the project.

As well as the 70 jobs created as part of the nursing care village, there will also be a number of jobs created during the construction phase of the project.

Gavin McEvoy of Greenbee Developments said: “We are excited to be able to bring forward our proposals for this care village which will be the first of its kind in Ireland.

“We have an ageing population and a growing need for appropriate facilities and we believe our proposals offer a cutting edge model of nursing care that will offer high quality living in a beautiful setting.

“We have enlisted Manor Healthcare to run the nursing care home because we believe they are the best in their field and have excelled in providing similar types of accommodation to older people in need.

“We are also pleased that we have been able to retain the old Providence House which has a rich history, and incorporate it into our plans for a beautiful Georgian style mansion which will front the new development.”

The nursing care home and assisted living units will be managed and run by Manor Healthcare which runs three homes in Ballyclare, Templepatrick and Rathfriland.

The group will also provide a nursing staff training centre on site to provide ongoing training to ensure high standards of care.
