£11,880 to Cancer Research

The Ballymoney Committee are delighted to announce that the sum of £11,880 has been donated towards Cancer Research, as a result of the doorstep collection (£4425) and street collection (£7455) at the Parade of Bands and vintage vehicles on Saturday 6th August.

Chairman of Ballymoney Cancer Research Committee, Mervyn Ferris commented: “Once again I thank the people of Ballymoney Borough for their outstanding generosity and support for the work being done by Cancer Research UK.

“I would also like to thank Core Committee Members Dorothy, June, Eddie and Ivor and the Collection Team for their dedication and hard work throughout the period, and especially for braving the inclement conditions during the collection on the Saturday.

“I would also thank those who helped with the counting of donations.

“Thanks also goes to the Parade Marshalls, the PSNI for traffic control, Saint John Ambulance Brigade for providing emergency cover, the Agricultural Committee for the use of the Showgrounds and Ballymoney Council Street cleansing work force for tidying up after the parade.

“The Committee thank the members of the local Old Vehicle Clubs which took part in the cavalcade prior to the Band Parade providing a spectacular variety of vehicles which were thoroughly appreciated by the viewing crowd.

“We are delighted that this is now an integral part of the evening’s event.”

The Chairman also commented that although 80 invitations were issued it was disappointing that the number of bands attending were down again on last year.

Mervyn added: “In the light of the tremendous support given by the general public to our event I would appeal to those bands who did not attend to give priority consideration to next year’s annual parade.

“Our sincere thanks goes to the following bands who attended in support of the fundraising on Saturday 6th August 2011:

“Lavin Flute Band for leading the parade, Armoy Auld Boys, Ballymaconnelly, Ballyrashane, Bushside Flute,Cahaney,Cloughmills Crown Defenders, Craiganee, Dervock, Dunaghy Flute , Drumahagles, Dunloy, Eden, Garryduff, Killycoogan Ind, Lisnagrot, Lisnamurrican, Milltown Acc; Mosside Acc; Rankin Memorial, Stranocum, Tullaghans, and Vow.”
