£13,000 bill for Jubilee Bridge

LARNE Borough Council is to spend nearly £13,000 to make Glynn Jubilee Bridge safe.

Ald Beggs and Cllr Mark McKinty asked that officers seek formal transfer of the bridge in to council ownership and Ald Winston Fulton suggested seeking funding for the repairs from the Rural Development Programme the pedestrian bridge at Glynn’s Jubilee Park.

Ald Roy Beggs proposed the move, after hearing that there was no provision in the local authority budget to pay for a replacement bridge. As it is, the £12,900 for repairs is to be drawn from the contingency fund.

The existing bridge is said to be in “poor structural condition”, with some of the steel supports corroded “to a point where they are no longer attached.
