Islandmagee Community Responders is a service provided by dedicated residents who are trained by the St John Ambulance to use defibrillators, oxygen equipment and resuscitation techniques in life-threatening emergencies.

Since its formation in 2004, the service has responded to many emergency calls on the island, providing first aid and basic life-saving support to patients while waiting for paramedics.

Gerry Armour, who has who has been with the community responders since day one, said: “On behalf of the first responders and the people of Islandmagee, I want to express my gratitude to AES Ballylumford’s social responsibility committee for this very generous donation.

“It has enabled us to buy new equipment which will help save lives in the local community.”
