The public realm project, which is being part-funded by Larne Borough Council, will include the provision of new footways and kerbing, street lighting, street furniture, railings and planted areas.

Lisburn-based firm Earney Contracts submitted a tender of £1,399,833 to deliver the scheme, which was 16 per cent lower than the pre-tender estimate.

The council has agreed to accept this tender, subject to several prerequisites being met, including confirmation that funding is in place to enable the project to proceed.

Meanwhile, Earney Contracts has also been successful in securing another major tender locally; delivering the cliff top path element of the Gobbins tourist attraction at Islandmagee.

The firm submitted a tender for this scheme of £242,767.

Again, this has been accepted by the local authority subject to certain conditions.
