£175,000 scheme for Safe Routes to Schools signs

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has announced the completion of a £175,000 scheme to improve safety warning signs at 24 schools - including four in the borough.

As part of an ongoing assessment and improvement programme across Northern Ireland, Roads Service (Northern Division) has completed the installation and upgrade of safety warning signs at the schools including Damhead Primary Coleraine; Carnalridge Primary, Portrush; Culcrow Primary, Aghadowey and St Columba’s, Ballerin.

Minister Kennedy said: “The upgrade and installation of school safety signs at 24 schools is a significant step to help improve road safety.

“School warning signs have been upgraded at 17 existing locations and an additional seven schools have now been included in the scheme.

“The warning signs are an important part of our programme to increase awareness for drivers that they are approaching a school and should check their speed and watch out for children and other pedestrians.”
