£190,00 major resurfacing worksat Castlerock

REGIONAL Development Minister Danny Kennedy announced the start of a £190,000 major resurfacing scheme on A2 Mussenden Road, Coleraine this week.

The work began on Monday between the junction of Sea Road at Hezlett House and Bishops Gate near Downhill.

The Minister said: “The scheme will benefit road users on this scenic coastal route for many years to come by providing an improved running surface through the use high quality surfacing materials.”

A convoy vehicle traffic management system will operate until Friday however due to the nature of the works it will be necessary to close Mussenden Road from Monday, February 3 to Friday, February 7. To facilitate commuting traffic during this period Mussenden Road will be open to through traffic before 9:30 am and after 4:00 pm. There will be no traffic restrictions during the evenings or at weekends.

During the period of closure, diversions for through traffic coming from Coleraine and Limavady will be in operation with extensive diversion signage deployed to inform motorists. Access to Castlerock and surrounding area from the Coleraine direction and to Benone from the Limavady direction is not affected.

Motorists who are planning to use Seacoast Road during this period are advised to plan their journeys accordingly. It is expected that the works will be completed by February 7, weather permitting.
