Cancer is a terrible disease which affects one in three people, and I am delighted to be able to contribute any amount which will assist them in the delivery of their services,” he said.
“I have enjoyed a fantastic year in office and many of the highlight events during my time as Mayor meant even more as they provided the opportunity to fundraise for this worthy cause, including the Mayor’s Ball and our fantastic Family Fun Day in the Guildhall,” he added.
“I would like to thank everyone who has supported the Mayor’s charity throughout the year, and I hope everyone will continue to support Macmillan at the many fundraising events organised locally by the charity,” he concluded.
Speaking on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support NI, Maria Small said: “This is a truly amazing total and is a great testament to the sheer volume of work, support and time that Martin spent working with Macmillan in the city. I would also like to thank Martin’s wife Bronagh and all his colleagues, friends and family who supported him at many events throughout the year.

“The money raised will be used to support and extend our advice services based at Altnagelvin Hospital. This is vital in ensuring that every cancer patient and their family in the North West have access to specialised and accurate information, allowing them to make informed decisions and giving them greater peace of mind.”
