£1m Waterside play park development put back ‘til New Year

THE million pound construction of seven new Waterside play parks will not now commence until January 2012 after the tender for the scheme was readvertised and the deadline for applications put back by over a month until October 7.

In August the Sentinel reported how £1,220,000 was to be spent on building seven play parks on the East Bank of the Foyle: Ardmore (£170,000); Gosheden (£210,000); Campsie (£155,000); Pinewood (£125,000); Lettershandoney (£180,000); Learmount (£170,000) and Faughan View (£210,000).

Applications for the contracts were originally advertised with a deadline of September 2 with work expected to commence after the end of October.

But the readvertisement of the tender now has a deadline of October 7 and the work - which it is estimated will take three months to complete - will commence in the New Year.

“The works will be for the development of new play facilities, and will involve the installation of play equipment together with associated synthetic safety surfacing, fencing, drainage and other minor civil works as required,” according to Derry City Council.
