£25,000 Ulster Scots project for Dollingstown

Craigavon Borough Council aims to work with Dollingstown Ulster Scots Cultural and Historical Society and the Ulster Scots Community Network.

Research would include Dollingstown and the wider borough to establish the clear foundation for the publication; inclusion of a genealogy aspect, photography for the publication; compilation of a DVD containing oral history; music, recipes.

Production of an interpretation panel would be located at the Orange Hall in Dollingstown and a special event to launch the DVD and publication organised for the Civic Centre. The project was estimated to cost £25,000 and would be delivered with the community development officers in Council.

In response to a question from Sinn Fein Councillor Gemma McKenna, the chairman confirmed that at this stage no funding was guaranteed and council was not being asked for anything.

The Ministerial Advisory Group on the Ulster Scots Academy (MAGUS) had invited project proposals for 2012/13 and grant assistance was through the Department of Culture Arts and Leisure (DCAL).

A detailed business case has been submitted.
