£2.5m town centre revamp

WORK on the first stage of ambitious plans to transform Carrick town centre will commence later this month.

The £2.5 million Public Realm project will see the creation of wider footpaths, better traffic flow and more open spaces for shoppers.

It received double ministerial endorsement this week with the visit of Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland and his Regional Development counterpart Danny Kennedy.

Mr McCausland, whose department is contributing most of the funding in a partnership with DRD and Carrick Council, said the scheme “will provide a vibrant and uplifting contrast to the existing poor quality and deteriorating surfaces of the paths and public spaces”.
