£276k funding to target unemployment

The two year project entitled ‘Going Places’ will be delivered and managed by the South West College and will involve a targeted training programme for unemployed and young people who are no longer in education.

Social Development Minister, Nelson McCausland, said: “This programme will be specifically targeted at the young and unemployed in the Coalisland and Dungannon areas with the aim of enhancing their employability prospects through targeted training and work placements.

“It will improve the skills they already have and increase their chances of gaining employment in the workplace.”

Courses offered in the programme include: car modification scheme, engineering courses, customer service with hair, beauty and holistic therapies, life skills including team building and self esteem training.

The programme will also include the provision of two community based mentors who will engage with residents and support participants before, during and after their training.

The Going Places project will directly engage with 166 unemployed people living in the Neighbourhood Renewal Areas of Dungannon and Coalisland.
