£300k allocated to homeless groups

OVER £300k has been allocated to homeless organisations in the Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) area this financial year.

Social Services Minister Edwin Poots outlined the funding in response to a query from SDLP MLA Pat Ramsey.

Mr Poots stated: “My Department does not track the allocation of funding by District or City Council area, nor does my Department directly provide funding for homeless organisations.

“However, the WHSCT and the Public Health Agency have allocated a total of £311,527 in the current financial year to homeless organisations in the WHSCT area.

“The funding is primarily used to provide accommodation and support for homeless people with chronic alcohol difficulties. I am unable, at this time, to provide details of future years funding.”
