£30,100: Davy does it again!

Speaking to The Times on Monday, Davy admitted that the sit out was difficult at times, but thanked all those who had donated money, volunteered to man his churn and those who had provided refreshments for him and his band of volunteers.

“I had a target in my head for the six charities - The Robinson Hospital, Children’s Heartbeat Trust, Willie’s Orphan Fund, Children to Lapland Trust, Autism Causeway Coast Branch and the Meningitis Research Foundation, so I will be able to give them a little bit more, and I will also be able to help two other charities, I am really over the moon,” admitted the football mad grandfather of five.

Davy had a special thank you to his wife Teresa for her help behind the scenes: “I wear SEVEN pairs of long johns during the sit out, so Teresa has a lot of laundry to do each night,” joked Davy who also grows a beard especially for the sit out.

Davy had hoped to break the half million barrier in his fund raising efforts this year. He wasn’t too disappointed that he didn’t reach the magical figure.

“There was some very cold and wet days during the sit out.

“To be honest there was a few days that I thought I would collect no money at all, so to walk away on Christmas Eve with over £30,000 was really really pleasing.”

Davy had his biggest lift of the sit out on Christmas Eve, £4,794.

His total that day was boosted by the local posties who held a Christmas jumper day for his charities, and other local businesses who donate on an annual basis.

During the sit out Davy got support from a number of local celebrities - Great Britain rower Alan Campbell and US Open winner Graeme McDowell.

Davy thanked the following people for their help: Meryl and the team at Moores, CP Hire, Bond’s Jewellers, PSNI, Rev McMullan, St Patrick’s Church, Dunluce School, the local press, and all those who helped in anyway.

“I couldn’t do this without the help of so many people,” told Davy. He’s already got 2016 in his sights, and is looking forward to handing over the money raised at a special night later in January. “Whilst I am still able, I will keep going,” said the inspirational Coleraine man.
