£34.4m spend on line

THE Department of Regional Development (DRD) will next year spend £6.4m on safety and renewal work on the Londonderry to Coleraine railway line and a total of £34.4m over the next few years.

Rail Minister Danny Kennedy revealed his Department’s proposed capital spend for this financial year, including the projected timescales and the costs for each project.

The Coleraine to Londonderry track safety improvement works will cost £3.4m in 2011/12 and a total of £37.7m by completion in 2012.

Meanwhile, the relay of the track will cost £3m in 2011/12 and £26.7m by completion of phase 1 in 2013.
