£3.6m spent on health bank staff

OVER £3.5m was spent on bank staff in the Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) in the 2008/9.

Health Minister Michael McGimpsey revealed 3,680,916 was spent in this area when he released details of the cost of using bank staff in each Trust.

In Belfast 7,007,000 was spent on bank staff whilst the equivalent figure in the Northern Trust was 4,488,890.

The Minister advised that the information was not held centrally and was supplied by individual Health and Social Care Trusts.

The total sum across Northern Ireland was 20,979,414.

The Minister stated: “It should be noted there is a reducing reliance on banking staff due to cuts in the health budget.”
