£38,000 benefits sourced for older people

THE Larne Times-supported Age NI campaign to increase benefits for older people continues to source thousands of pounds in unclaimed benefits for local older people.

In the past two weeks, the charity’s advice team has helped to identify a further £19,000 - taking the total of unclaimed benefits to almost £38,000 since the campaign launched last month.

To date, the dedicated helpline has handled 63 calls and staff have carried out 49 benefit checks on behalf of callers, sourcing unclaimed benefits totalling £19,261.01. The total amount of benefits identified since the campaign launched now stands at £37,387.85.

That’s all money to which local older people were entitled, but did not know it.

Jacqui Corscadden, Age NI head of services, said: “This is great news for older people in the the area. We’re delighted to be able to support them to access the money they’re entitled to.

“Again, we’re keen to help everyone who calls us. However our lines are busy and our team is small. We’d appeal to everyone who calls to be patient. An advisor will deal with your query as soon as possible.”
