£417k Gobbins contract

The contract to construct the staircase element of the long-awaited Gobbins cliff path project has been awarded by Larne Council.

The feature, known as Gobh’s Stairs, will provide a direct, openly accessible link between the lower and upper cliff paths.

Only one tender – from Mallusk-based firm McLaughlin & Harvey – was submitted for the contract within the deadline, at a cost of £417,500.

As previously reported, the civil engineering company has also been awarded the £3.6m contract to restore the historic half-mile path cliff at Islandmagee.

It is anticipated the project will have a visitor spin-off for Whitehead.
