£43k bill forWonder Villains Eminem gig

THE cost of police overtime during last year’s Vital festival in Bangor - played by Londonderry group The Wonder Villains and US rapper Eminem - was a whopping £43k, it’s been revealed.

Police also drafted in air support for the event but deny providing Eminem with a state cavalcade last summer.

Hundreds of police officers and civilian staff (154 in total) were involved in the policing immediately prior to, during and after the concert, at a costing of £43,350 in police overtime over two nights.

The PSNI even drafted in air support - six officers and three aircraft - for the event which was headlined by US rapper Eminem.

The total cost relating to staff, pilot and aircraft was £9,625.

But the PSNI denied that Eminem got a state cavalcade out of the venue at Ward Park in Bangor stating: “Eminem did not get a six motorcycle official police state cavalcade but was escorted from the concert venue. This was an operational decision.”

It also confirmed that a number of police officers got free tickets for the gig.

“A number of Police Officers received invitations to attend the concerts in the form of concessionary tickets. These tickets had no monetary value and were recorded as such. None were VIP,” the PSNI revealed.
