£4.4m car park works underway at Altnagelvin hospital

At a value of £4.4m, construction works are due to be completed by the end of August 2015.

Western Trust Chief Executive Elaine Way, CBE said: “The Trust is delighted to award the second construction contract for the North Wing project. “When complete, the new facility will enable work to commence on a major upgrade of accommodation for all of the services currently located in the 50 year old Tower Block.

“A particular effort has been made to deliver a phased approach to the project to ensure safe continuation of services on the hospital site at all times.”

To enable construction the current outpatient’s car park at Altnagelvin Hospital has closed.

Additional parking spaces have been provided in other areas of the Hospital site to replace the spaces lost. These spaces will be available until the new multi storey building is opened. This project is part of the new North Wing development for the Hospital, which will deliver six new inpatient ward areas and a new main entrance for the Hospital. The site for the new North Wing is currently a car park located close to the Tower Block of the Hospital. The new facility will provide replacement spaces for those lost due to the North Wing development.
