It all began when Cornmarket staff nominated Roddensvale as their 2014 charity initiative. The idea came from one of the company’s long-standing customers, Michael Montgomery, whose son Conor attends the school.

This helped to make the fundraising that much more meaningful, as many of the staff know Michael.

Cornmarket’s social committee, chaired by Geraldine McGeown then sprang into action and raised the funds in a number of ways, including sales from healthy eating and sweet baskets, donations from staff who dressed down on Fridays once a month, profit from Cornmarket vending machines, sausage and bacon bap morning fundraiser, bun sale, a raffle and donations from staff who arrived late for work.

A total donation of £4470.67 has now been made to Roddensvale, which will be used to purchase much-needed sensory equipment for the multisensory room, or Controlled Audio-Visual Environment (CAVE).

Roddensvale Principal John Madden thanked all those involved and said: “It was great to have some of the representatives from Cornmarket down to the school and a fantastic total was raised.”
