£5m is poured into North West sport funds over last five years

SPORTS NI ploughed over £5m into capital projects in the North West over the past five years.

The state-body spent 5,749,668 on sports projects in the Londonderry, Strabane and Limavady areas.

Bready Cricket Club was the biggest single grant recipient getting 1,692,451 in 2007/8.

Gaelic football and hurling clubs and the Derry GAA County Board collectively received more with 2,334,168.

The GAA grant recipients were Derry GAA County Board (800,000);

St Mary's Faughanvale (235,000); Na Magha Hurling & Camogie Club (286,342); St Canice's GFC (245,000); St Mary's GAC Slaughtmanus (210,000); St Joseph's GAC Craigbane (245,000); and John Mitchel's GAC (612,826).

Other recipients were the Ulster Gliding Club (80,258) at Bellarena; Greysteel Community Enterprise (558,167); Limavady Cricket & RFC (216,632);

Strabane District Council (175,585); Derry City Council (392,407).

Sports Minister Nelson McCausland outlined the funding at the Assembly.
