£600,000 improvement scheme starts in Crumlin

CRUMLIN councillor Anne Marie Logue has welcomed the awarding of £600,000 of funding for environmental improvement schemes in Crumlin from several agencies including the EU, Antrim Borough Council, DRD and NIE.

Work is due to begin this month and will include creating new footpaths, resurfacing the main street and landscaping the area.

The funding will allow work in the village to start this month and include environmental improvements such as the under-grounding of cables, new footpaths and kerb stones, resurfacing in the Main Street, landscaping and enhancement of local buildings.

"The overall aim of this project is to improve the appearance of the village, attract investors and enhance the prospects for residents and businesses alike" said Ms Logue.

"Further to this the scheme envisages the increased usage of local buildings for, and by, the community.

"This is a great economic opportunity to aid the regeneration of the town and it couldn't come at a better time. Facing into the New Year, spending on schemes such as this can only help stimulate the local economy following the hardship of the recent financial downturn.

"I would urge all the business and property owners in the town to buy into this scheme and play their part in improving the town's appearance. The work will enhance the town's appearance and we shouldn't see it spoiled by empty lots or derelict buildings."
