£60,000mobile powerplant is unveiled

A £60,000 mobile generator based at the Showgrounds is to be used for specific football matches and in an emergency.

Updating members of Council’s Community Planning Committee last week on the generator’s potential use, Assistant Director of Development, Leisure and Cultural Services, Bernie Candlish pointed out that it had been 100% funded by the IFA for use at Ballymena and other football venues in the province during UEFA and some televised matches.

She said the unit, which is contained on a large commercial trailer, had been specifically designed to interface with the power supply in the Showgrounds and a number of other Premier League grounds.

She also said Council had made alterations to existing systems so that the unit could be used at the Seven Towers Leisure Centre and Ardeevin in line with the local Emergency Plan.

Ms Candlish added that the unit is not suitable for use at locations without the right infrastructure and that it had yet to be put to use in a real emergency situation.
