£70,000 scheme in Cloughmills

The work was due to begin on 22 July between Drumbare Road and Cloughmills Primary School.

The Minister said: “This scheme will greatly improve the surface quality of the carriageway on Main Street, Cloughmills.”

To help minimise any inconvenience to the travelling public and local businesses the majority of this work is programmed to be completed using lane closures.

A full closure will be in place however, on Sunday 28 July 2013 to facilitate the surfacing works. During this closure a signed traffic diversion via Drumbare/Lisnasoo Road, Frosses Road and Drumadoon Road will be in operation for through traffic.

The scheme is expected to be substantially completed on 28 July.

Sinn Fein councillor Cathal McLaughlin said: “I welcome the extensive resurfacing work which will take place on this main arterial road.

“The stretch of the road being resurfaced covers from the now disused PSNI station down to around the area of the new play park.

“I am glad that DRD roads service has prioritised this issue and other work they have carried out in the area.

“Finishing the work over the summer holiday period, will minimise any potential disruption in the coming weeks as the children return to school.”

North Antrim Ulster Unionist MLA Robin Sawnn added: “I am exceptionally pleased that this important scheme is now underway. It will greatly enhance access to the village and will be a welcome boost to the local economy.”
