PSNI determined to work with community

THE PSNI says its officers are working to make Carrick a safer place to live - and has appealed for the public's help in achieving this goal.

The force has defended its policing of the Borough following criticism of the response to reported incidents last weekend, including renewed questions over the level of manpower available locally.

A spokesperson said: “Resources are in place across Carrickfergus to address crime and issues of concern. Dedicated response teams respond to emergency calls and calls for assistance from the public, albeit with priority given to incidents where there is a risk to life or property.

“Neighbourhood policing teams work on an ongoing basis with our local communities to build relationships of trust and identify the issues which cause residents of the district most concern. Officers are out on patrol in the local areas to identify and deal with antisocial behaviour and crime, in addition to acting as a deterrent with their visible presence.”

Police continue to stress that there is no evidence linking an alleged rave last Saturday night (September 4) with a spate of criminal damage in the early hours of the following morning.

The TIMES was told that officers were dispatched to the Woodburn reservoir following a complaint about music at 11.52pm, but found no evidence of offences being committed.

It was confirmed that eight properties in Milebush Close, Camden Park and Richmond Park suffered damage during the night. The spokesperson said the first report of vandalism was received at 9.18am, with officers on the scene just over 45 minutes later.

Residents with concerns or questions about policing are being urged to speak to police, who are already working with community groups and elected representatives.

Anyone with information on last weekend’s incidents has been asked to tell the PSNI by calling 0845 600 8000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
