When asked whether councillors were made aware of amendments to how they would operate when the districts merge before they went to press, a spokesperson said: “Assistant Chief Constable Stephen Martin, who is responsible for District Policing, wrote to all current and incoming Council Chief Executives, as well as the Managers of PCSPs, in February explaining forthcoming changes.

“When the District Commanders fully take up their posts on April 1 they will continue to engage further with their council colleagues.”

Two councillors told the Mail they were not made aware Cookstown Station would no longer be 24-hour.
