PSNI spent £100k policing Wales England qualifier

THE PSNI spent £100k policing a European championship qualifier in another country.

Local police forked out the sum to manage the Wales v England Euro 2012 qualifier in Cardiff in March, it has emerged.

The local police force spent £20,000 sending 92 police officers to the Millennium Stadium on March 26 and a further £80,000 paying them.

The PSNI revealed that 73 Constables, 11 Sergeants, and five Inspectors were accompanied by a Chief Inspector, a Chief Superintendent and an Assistant Chief Constable.

Sixteen PSNI vehicles were deployed; the cost of all transportation including ferry costs, any flight tickets, taxis, local vehicle hire etc in South Wales, fuel etc. was £19,146.98; and the cost of manpower was £79,590.

Releasing the information in response to a Freedom of Information request the PSNI advised the £98,736.98 deployment was the response to a request for Mutual Aid by South Wales Police.
