PSNI to proceed with Neill ASBO

THE PSNI are to proceed with an Anti Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) on one of Coleraine’s most prolific offenders.

Peter Neill (44) of Hazelbank Road will be prevented from entering certain areas of Coleraine if the application is successful.

Neill, who has over 170 previous convictions, is one of the key witnesses in the murder investigation of Catholic father-of-four, Kevin McDaid.

The ASBO application has been in the court system for a number of years .

During Monday’s sitting of North Antrim Magistrates’ Court, a solicitor for the PSNI told the court that the application had been delayed for a long time as Neill was either in custody or on bail.

He said that any bail conditions had taken care of ASBO conditions, but that the PSNI wished to proceed with the application.

Neill was not in court on Monday.

The case was adjourned until January 14, when a date will be fixed for a hearing.

If the PSNI are successful, Neill will be unable to associate with certain individuals.

He will also be banned from using foul, offensive, sectarian or intimidating language to any person.
