Public meetings
 planned on new railway halt plan

Last autumn, the site of the former South Eastern Regional College off the Knockmore Road was demolished and cleared in preparation for construction of the new secure park and ride facility featuring around 350 spaces and installation of new railway platforms.

Construction work is expected to commence during 2016, subject to appropriate Department for Regional Development funding approvals and planning permission.

Speaking about the next stages of the infrastructure project, Translink project manager, Louise Sterritt said: “This is an exciting project for Lisburn which will play an important role in meeting the travel needs of our local customers as train passenger numbers continue to grow.

“We want to make this station as accessible as possible for local residents as well as motorists and plan to provide a new pedestrian link path between the station and neighbouring housing development.

“It’s really important we engage with our customers and local people to hear their feedback on the proposals. These public information sessions will be a great opportunity to view plans for the facility and ask any questions directly to the project team.”

Lisburn Councillor Alexander Redpath has welcomed the organisation of the public meetings.

“I am delighted to see progress with this project which should begin construction in summer 2016 subject to the necessary approvals and planning permission.

“I am heartened to see Translink engaging with local residents at this early stage to ensure that their concerns are fully considered before works begin.

“The Lisburn West Rail Halt and 350 space Park & Ride represents a huge investment by Translink in Lisburn’s transport infrastructure.

“Parking facilities are very limited around Lisburn’s city centre rail halt and the proposed new stop in Knockmore could open up the rail network to hundreds of extra commuters.”

The Translink Lisburn West public information sessions will take place in Lisburn Train Station, Bachelors Walk on Wednesday, February 25, 12 noon – 2pm and on Thursday, February 26, 5 – 8pm.

Guests are advised that parking is limited on site until after 6.30pm.
