Public must be kept informed says Curran

Sinn Féin Councillor Brendan Curran has urged local authorities to keep people informed of changes to local government as part of the Review of Public Administration.

“This is the biggest shake up of local government for 40 years,” he said. “While the new councils do not come into being formally until next April, councillors are meeting to set up shadow structures in preparation for the changeover.

“There is a degree of uncertainty among the public about what this will mean and what powers and responsibilities the new council will have. The new authorities have a duty to explain the changes to ratepayers.”
