Each street will benefit from new paving, surfaces, street furniture and landscaping consistent with the completed area on Market Street and Church Place.

Chair of Craigavon Borough Council’s Development Committee, Councillor Darryn Causby commented: “We’ve lobbied hard to get Phase 2 going and my thanks to the Department for Social Development for their funding of £1.75m towards the work.

“Council is committed to regenerating our town centres. This is just one example of that regeneration.”

Work will start on two lengths of footway from the southern side of Market Street from Malcolm Road and the northern side of Market Street from Castle Lane to Windsor Avenue.

While sections of footway will have to be fenced off at times during the work, access to premises within the streets affected will be retained at all times, according to a spokesperson.

Works will continue within these areas until the end of November at which stage the finished footpaths will open to the public.

Due to the Christmas embargo the work will finish on November 30 so that traders and shoppers alike can make the most of Christmas shopping.

The contractor will return on site during the second week of January 2013 with a planned completion date of June 2013.
