Publican is fined for keeping open for US Golf

A PUBLICAN who allowed customers to stay late to watch the US Golf Open, was fined £300 at Magherafelt Magistrates Court.

George Tohill (43), of Rainey Court, Magherafelt, admitted selling and permitting the consumption of intoxicating liquour at The Step Inn, Magherafelt, on April 21.

Defence solicitor Stephen Atherton explained that a number of the locals had been in to watch Graeme McDowell on TV taking part in the US Open.

He stressed that the Step Inn was not a public house which was regularly mentioned in the court.

Imposing the fines, District Judge Des Perry warned defendant to be careful in future as “your license could be looked at.”
