Pulled in front of another vehicle and caused a crash on the A1

When he was turning right across the A1 carriageway at Loughbrickland a 75-year-old man did not see another vehicle and causing a collision.

William Doherty, Slademore Drive, Dublin, was fined £100 last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for driving without due care and attention on April 19 this year.

He was also given three points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court that an accident happened at 7.50pm as the defendant was driving on to the carriageway.

He was intending to turn right but pulled out in front of another vehicle and there was a collision.

Doherty told police the sun was in his eyes.

A solicitor representing the defendant said that fortunately no one was injured.

She added that her client had been driving for 60 years and had never appeared in court before. He had worked professionally as an HGV driver.
