He was sentenced to three months in custody but this was suspended for three years.

As well he was fined £150 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 2.38am police received a report of a domestic incident at an address in Lurgan.

They spoke to the injured party who said her son had come home and seemed under the influence of drugs.

She tried to calm him down but he punched her to the face.

Doran had barricaded himself in a front bedroom and when police spoke to him he told them to ‘f—k off’. He continued to be abusive to police and had to be restrained.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said that what he had heard from family members was that after the court matters had been settled the relationship between Doran and his mother would be on a much better footing.

He added that there had been messages of reconciliation but no direct contact between the parties.

Mr Downey added that Doran would like the matter dealt without the benefit of a pre-sentence report.

He explained that there had been a family meeting and they wanted the matter put to bed as quickly as possible.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said Doran did not have a bad record but unfortunately his behaviour was made more serious by the fact the victim was female, older and a relative.
