Punched mother and tried to strangle dog

He was Tomasz Ksizer, Victoria Street, Lurgan, and he appeared in court by way of videolink from Maghaberry Prison.

For common assault and criminal damage on January 1 this year he was sentenced to two months in prison and for causing unnecessary suffering to a dog he was fined £150.

He was also ordered to pay a £25 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 6pm police attended a domestic incident at Victoria Street.

The defendant was in an argument with his mother and had attempted to strangle a dog. His mother intervened and he punched her in the stomach.

Ksizer also damaged an internet router belonging to his sister.

When interviewed by police he said he could not remember anything because he had drunk a litre of alcohol.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said his client had been
 in custody since the incident.

He added that the defendant’s mother will be returning to Poland but he had an extended circle of friends who had been in contact with him while he has been in custody.

Mr Downey said that one of these persons was well respected within the Polish community and would take the defendant under his wing when he was released.

He added that Ksizer accepted alcohol had played a major part in his offences and he has agreed on his release to attend local AA meetings.
