Pupils cook up a treat for the Dean

A RECIPE book compiled by P7 pupils of Corran Integrated Primary School has helped boost the annual Black Santa appeal in Belfast.

The pupils have been studying the concept being part of a community and how to be charitable, so at Christmas they decided to put their lessons into practice. They decided to make and sell a recipe book with all proceeds going to the Black Santa's charities. They chose this appeal because they would be sure that all money raised would go to local charities, many of which are for children.

The recipes all came from the children themselves, members of staff and friends of the school. Vice-principal and P7 teacher, said the books were designed and made by the children themselves.

Through their efforts, the children raised an astounding 720. They travelled to Belfast’s St Anne’s Cathedral - the bus journey having been donated free-of-charge by Travelwise - to meet the Black Santa and present him with the money raised.

Dean Dr Houston McKelvey was very happy to receive the donation and to learn about all the work that the pupils had done for this appeal. He rewarded them with a personally conducted tour of cathedral which was a delightful treat for all the pupils.

The pupils would like to thank all those who supported their fundraising appeal.
