Pupils encouraged to grow their own

INVER Garden Centre has launched a new initiative for schools in the Larne borough to encourage young people to grow their own vegetables.

Called School - Grow, the project began on Friday with an information session for teachers at the Millbrook-based garden centre.

Proprietor John Shannon presented the session, with information on how to grow and enjoy vegetables, both in school and at home. He said many young people have never had the pleasure and satisfaction of going out into the garden and pulling up home-grown produce.

After the session, each teacher took away with them a selection of garden products and seeds to be used by their school. All products were supplied by Inver Garden Centre and their suppliers, at no cost to the schools.
