Pupils enjoy an insight of business

Kilwaughter Chemical Copmany Ltd invited students from both St MacNissis Primary School and Larne Grammar on the visit of its headquarters, offering the opportunity to get ‘hands on’ with some of the company’s products.

The pupils injected a great deal of fun into the normal working day at Kilwaughter during both specially tailored visits. Primary 7 pupils from St MacNissis got the chance to learn about the biodiversity management of the site, getting up close and personal with some of the wildlife common to the habitat, while Larne Grammar students were given an insight into the science behind the company’s products.

Simon McDowell, managing director at Kilwaughter said; “Inherent in our approach to business is the belief that the community in which we operate should benefit from our presence. Educational school visits are therefore an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our company’s activities whilst also developing the industry knowledge of local pupils in a controlled and safe environment.”

As part of the Quarry Product Association (QPA) Northern Ireland’s ‘Stay Safe’ campaign, Mr McDowell commented on the need to raise quarry safety awareness.

“There are many places to enjoy recreational activities and a sense of adventure without encountering the hidden and unexpected hazards of a quarry.

“I hope that parents, teachers and anyone working with young people can help us get the critical safety message across - please stay safe and stay out of quarries unless you are on a supervised visit.”
