Pupils given ‘Bee Safe’ message

The multi-agency interactive community education programme is designed to promote personal safety and community awareness.

It is offered free of charge to children and gives them the opportunity of participating in active learning scenarios which depict dangerous situations they might come across in their daily lives.

Bee Safe initiative also prepares pupils for the transition to secondary level education.

The agencies involved are; PSNI, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue, NI Railways, Translink safety bus, Home Safety, Women’s Aid and Northern Ireland Electricity.

Neighbourhood Community police officer Shaun Fraser said: “Bee Safe is an invaluable event for all the P7 children of the borough. It helps them learn to protect themselves by educating and demonstrating personal safety and community awareness whether in the home or outside at play. I also would like to thank all the contributors and the schools for their participation at Carrickfergus Bee Safe 2014”

Councillor Noel Williams, chair of Carrickfergus Policing and Community Safety Partnership, said “Bee Safe is a valuable opportunity for our young people to participate in interactive learning scenarios such as road safety, personal safety, electrical safety, fire safety, home safety and first aid. Carrickfergus PCSP is delighted to be able to support this year’s initiative.”
