Pupils put heads together to solve murder mystery

The aim of the project was to encourage junior pupils to engage with the books in the library and learn to use the filing system correctly.

A ‘body’ had been discovered on the library floor but was quickly removed, leaving only police tape. It was up to the wily pupils to find out who the victim was, what the murder weapon was and who had committed the vile deed.

Clue sheets were provided and all answers were to be found in the library. The poor victim was Mr Thomson, head of psychology, and he had been poisoned by the school nurse, Mrs Clarke.

The task was well supported by the junior pupils, with a group of youngsters managing to fit the clues together to find the suspect, victim and murder weapon correctly while also spelling each of the answers correctly. They included Amy Abraham from Year 8, and Year 10 pupils Shannon Rea, Hugh Rainey, Marc Murray, Adam Wilson, Joel Watters and Jamie Mitchell.

Amy, who managed to gather together all of the clues said: “This was a fun activity. Some of the clues we had to find were very difficult. I had to research them using parts of the library after school.”
