Pupils spend a year learning business

PUPILS from Foyleview School and Troy College in Londonderry were amongst entrepreneurial students from all over Northern Ireland who gathered together at Strabane’s Alley Theatre recently to celebrate the end of a year of learning about business first-hand.

During this academic year, all of the students participated in the Young Enterprise Northern Ireland’s (YENI) Team Programme.

The event, which was attended by Fiona Murray and Amy Dixon of Chocolate Memories, consisted of a morning of interactive business games, which included a fun competition whereby the pupils were required to design their own chocolate packaging.

“The Team Programme plants the seed for future enterprise, leading to job creation and sustainable business,” commented Jeff Gallagher, Development Manager at YENI.

“Team makes a real difference to young people with learning challenges, by preparing them for the world of work and encouraging enterprise. It enables young people to develop a wide range of business skills and create better prospects for their future careers

“We are delighted that so many schools took part in the Team Programme this year.

“All at Young Enterprise are extremely grateful for the generous financial support and volunteer assistance we have received throughout the year.

“The students deserve a treat after all their hard work demonstrated throughout the year, so we are especially grateful to all of our local business volunteers, especially Chocolate Memories, who have made today’s celebration possible.”

Young Enterprise is building a connected world of young people, business volunteers and educators, inspiring each other to succeed through enterprise.

Each year, its business volunteers inspire over 95,000 young people aged 5 to 25 years.

These programmes empower the next generation with the confidence, ability and ambition to succeed in a rapidly changing global economy.
