Pupils taught to Bee Safe

NEARLY 400 Primary 7 pupils from across the Banbridge District participated in this year’s ‘Bee Safe’ event at the Parish Centre in Banbridge.

The event which ran over three mornings was organised by Banbridge District Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) and was jointly funded by the PCSP and Banbridge District Council Good Relations.

The pupils from 19 of the District’s 24 primary schools participated in eight scenarios which helped them to think about their own safety and that of their peers in a range of situations and settings.

The scenarios which were provided by local partners as part of their organisational remit included: Environmental education and recycling (Banbridge District Council); Healthy lifestyles (Southern Trust); Home safety (Banbridge District Council); Positive choices (REACT Ltd.); Electricity safety (NIE); Stranger danger (PSNI); Fire safety (NI Fire & Rescue Service); Safety bus (Translink)

The schools represented at the Banbridge District ‘Bee Safe’2012 event were:

Monday 11th June 2012: St Mary’s, Rathfriland; St Colamn’s, Annaclone; St Colman’s, Dromore; Fair Hill, Kinallen; Moyallen; Gilford; Edenderry

Tuesday 12th June 2012: St Colman’s Bann, Laurencetown; Milltown; St Francis’, Aghaderg ; St Matthew’s, Ballyward; St Mary’s, Banbridge; Donard, Banbridge.

Wednesday 13th June 2012: Bronte; Scarva; Drumadonnell; St Mary’s, Dechomet; Iveagh, Rathfriland; Abercorn, Banbridge.

At each of the ‘Bee Safe’ events, one of the groups of pupils was commended by the facilitators for their participation and behaviour. This will be followed up with the respective schools over the next few weeks.
