Pupils unveil new-look mural

Pupils from Newtownabbey Community High School recently unveiled a fabulous new mural at Glenbane Avenue in Rathcoole.

The colourful new wall painting was designed and created by the students, working alongside local artist Angela Ginn. It promotes an anti-drugs message and replaces a paramilitary mural at the site.

The project, funded through Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Good Relations Budget, took place as part of the council’s Good Relations Action Plan, which aims to re-image and develop shared space within the borough.

Mayor Billy Webb, who visited the site to check out the new artwork for himself, commended the young people on their hard work and efforts towards creating a positive image for Rathcoole.

“The local community was consulted about this project and everyone I have spoken to has been very pleased with what’s been done.

“The pupils have done a lot of work and the new mural looks great - it’s an absolute credit to them,” he said.
