The popular Try-a-Boat event - under the new name of Push the Boat Out - returns to Carrickfergus Marina between 10am and 2pm.

In an initiative supported by RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Northern Ireland, Belfast Lough Sailability, Sea Cadets Carrickfergus and members of the marina’s Berth Holders’ Association, participants will have an opportunity to try out the sport.

Pre-booking is not necessary, note the organisers, just turn up with warm clothes at the reception at the Sea Cadets building opposite Brewers Fayre.

RYA Sailability was set up to give adults and children with any form of disability the opportunity to take up the sport and learn the skill of sailing.

Carrickfergus-based Belfast Lough Sailability is a non-profit organisation run entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers who assist in the co-ordination of activities as well as enabling people living with disabilities to get afloat.

The marina event is part of a nationwide programme running 13-21 May which will see thousands of people having a go on a variety of different vessels at the taster sessions.

Over 90,000 people have experienced sailing at Push the Boat Out events since 2013.
