The court heard that on June 8 this year police went to Drumellan Court where an altercation had been going on between the defendant and his mother.

The defendant became aggressive and pushed her in the chest. He said he would wreck and burn her house down.

District Judge, Mr Alan White, said the mother had now taken out a non-molestation order against Hughes.

A barrister for the defendant said he had given a very candid history of his background in a pre-sentence report.

He added that Hughes knew he should never have pushed her and although he made the comment he would not have carried it out.

Mr White told Hughes he had an atrocious record for someone of his age.
